One of South Africa’s most influential ICT leaders, Prof Andile Ngcaba, has recently been announced as an Adjunct Professor at NMMU. His extensive knowledge and involvement within the South African ICT sector, as well as his passion for “multi-disciplinary topics related to the internet” will be of great benefit to NMMU says NMMU Head of Computing Sciences, Prof Greyling.

A notable achievement in Prof Ngcaba’s 8 year tenure as Director General of the SA Department of Communications, was his fundamental transformation of the country’s ICT sector post 1994 elections. He is now the executive chairman of both Dimension Data Middle East and Africa and, Convergence Partners Investments - who have a long history of involvement in the South African ICT sector. He is recognized globally for his active involvement in business, various global policy-making and technology development institutions, as well as being a driver of innovation and change. He recently founded the Cortex Hub, an innovation hub in East London, employing 30 innovators, many of whom are computing graduates from Eastern Cape Universities.

Prof Ngcaba, as Director General, has strong ties with the University. In 1998 he launched the Department of Computing Sciences’ Centre of excellence. NMMU is honoured that he agreed to share his experience and expertise in what is a major coup for the university. “It is a great privilege for our department to have this formal relationship with him. We look forward to many positive collaborations and know that he will add great value to our department”, says Prof Greyling.
