Following fieldwork conducted on the Iberian Peninsula in the northern hemisphere summer of 2015, a newly recorded natural hybrid was named in honour of Dr Estrela Figueiredo.

The low-growing, shrubby plant, known as Petrosedum ×estrelae, belongs to the family Crassulaceae, which is commonly referred to as the Houseleek family or, in South Africa, the Plakkie family. The latinised Greek saying “ex Africa semper aliquid novi", or “(There's) always something new (coming) out of Africa”, appears to apply equally well to Europe as far as the discovery of new plants goes. Congratulations to Estrela with being commemorated in the name of this new plant that she discovered.
