Change the world

Faculty of Science

Thousands of jubilant friends and family members travelled from far to witness the capping of their loved ones at Nelson Mandela University during the Autumn Graduation. It was a celebration of hard work and resilience when graduates in the Faculty of Science were awarded for their hard work.

Nelson Mandela University’s 2019 Autumn Graduation season started on a high note with the George Campus Graduation ceremonies taking place on Wednesday, 3 April 2019. The ceremony for all Science Faculty students in our Port Elizabeth Campus commenced on the 09th of April   at 09:30 in the morning with  the School of Computing Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statics, School of Bimolecular and Chemical sciences. The School of Environmental Sciences took place in the afternoon at 14:30.

Graduation is a significant milestone in anyone's life. It is the culmination of an academic journey that reflects commitment, perseverance, hard work, intellect & sacrifice.  The university created hype in all its social media platforms. This includes the # that are being used, #MandelaGrad19 #MandelaUniGrad.

During her graduation speech, Chancellor Geraldine Geraldine Joslyn Fraser-Moleketi said she would like to see the graduates "reflect the vision for Mandela Uni - be global players; firmly located in Africa, drawing on the accumulated knowledge and heritage of Africa to make a difference in the world"

The Science Faculty certainly flew the flag high at the December graduation with a total of 697 graduates, with 15 PHd candidates and our MCs graduates, 1 Mcom cum laude, 1 mtech cum laude, 20 Msc cum laude and 27 Msc.

The University's Chancellor, closed her inspiring speech at the George campus by saying:

I wish to thank the families and communities who have stood by and supported our graduates. Your contributions are a fundamental component of the success of each and every graduate here today. It does indeed take a village to raise a child. We share in your pride and congratulate you on the success of your loved ones.

And so to the graduates, as you prepare to walk across this stage and into the next chapter of your journey, my final questions to you are: What will you do with your education from Nelson Mandela University to change the world – for your family, your community, your profession, your country? What contribution will you make towards Africa’s growth and development that leads to a better life for all?

With confidence we believe that each of you will heed Madiba’s call and make a valuable contribution. We look forward to seeing where your lives lead and encourage you to be active alumni of Mandela University."

Congratulations once again. I thank you.
