• Up to two event coordinators to oversee social event activities of the postgraduate forum.
  • Assigns responsibilities to forum members.
  • Ensures that social event tasks are completed by forum members.
  • Coordinates social events (e.g. meetings, gatherings, etc.).

 

Danielle Keys – Event Coordinator 1

Danielle Keys an aspiring marine biologist who has a passion for marine top predators. She holds a BSc in Biological Sciences, Honours, and Masters in Zoology all for which she received a cum laude at the Nelson Mandela University. She is currently doing her PhD in Zoology and her research focuses on the effects of climate on a Vulnerable seabird species. She is the student representative of the Zoology department at the University. In her spare time, she enjoys volunteering at SANCCOB or spending time in the ocean, playing underwater hockey, rock climbing or looking for birds.

Jacqueline Mafemera – Event Coordinator 2

Jacqueline was born and raised in Zimbabwe but spent the last 6 years in South Africa pursuing her university studies at Nelson Mandela University. In 2022 Jacqueline graduated with a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Biochemistry studies and served as an undergraduate assistant for a biochemistry course and as a research student studying the potential positive effects of cannabis on alleviating symptoms and effects of obesity and diabetes on obese and diabetic rat models. During her MSc studies, she also served as a postgraduate representative of the Biochemistry and Microbiology department in the faculty of science. She also volunteered at Cheshire Home Summerstrand, a non-governmental organization that provides residential care and support to physically disabled adults, an experience she describes as eye-opening and a blessing. Jacqueline is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in biochemistry focusing further on studies in relation to cannabis as a potential medicinal plant. In her free time, she enjoys reading, cooking, and learning new recipes on the internet. Jacqueline aspires to implement the knowledge she has gained to successfully reverse the rise in obesity and associated risks, and she believes that she has what it takes.
